My first singing lesson may have been over 10yrs ago but I still remember the excitement and nerves that came beforehand! With classes resuming next week (don't forget to book your spot!) i'm lucky to have some new students joining our RJV community, so here are some handy hints for your first lesson!
The first lesson is all about your new teacher getting to know your voice and what it needs so if you crack or sing off tune that's actually a good thing! It will help us as teachers figure out how we can help you and what exercises or songs will be best for you to improve!
Below are some of the best ways to get the most out of your first singing lesson!
1) Come in with an open mind!
All voice teachers are different, they may have studied different voice theories or have a different teaching style to your old teacher. Your first lesson is just as much about you getting to know us as it is us getting to know you! Listen to what this new teacher can bring to the table and see if that matches your goals and ambitions.
2) What song should i bring to my first singing lesson?
The song doesn't have to be perfect, a particular style or even be a full song! As teachers we want to hear you when you are most comfortable so bringing something you know well and have fun singing is more important that bringing a difficult song.
3) Come prepared!
The graphic below outlines what to bring to your first lesson, these items will help you get the most out of your lesson and feel comfortable!
